Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a great holiday and are enjoying the new year. I want to thank everyone for the thoughtful Christmas gifts and cards.

Starting January 5th it will officially be the first school week in the third quarter. It is hard to believe that you are all more than half way to becoming 6th graders! Report cards will be coming home Friday. Please sign the report card envelope. Then return the signed report card envelope by the following week.

In January, the fifth grade team will be sending home volunteer sign up forms for Biz Town. We can take only a limited number of volunteers so be watching for the sign up form this month. They do not allow parents to come and just observe, so if you want to come you will need to volunteer to help out in one of the businesses. Also, this month students will be applying for their job at Biz Town and finding out which job they will be getting. We try to match interests and skills to the available jobs the best we can. There are some jobs more popular than others, so be aware that many children don't get the job they wanted. We have found in the past no matter what job a child receives that all the children have a good time. This is also a good life learning experience.

In preparation for Aims, fifth grade will be sending home extra reading practice to be done every 2 weeks. Your child will receive a folder with information about this January 6th. There will be 2 forms that we are asking parents to read, sign, and return to school. We started doing this last year and found it helped the children's performance on the Aims Test.
